Strengthening Industry Collaboration: CBOD Engages COMAC to Advance Downstream Sector Stability

On March 3, 2026, the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD) paid a courtesy visit to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) as part of ongoing efforts to deepen industry engagement and strengthen collaboration within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The CBOD delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Patrick K. Ofori, and a delegation from: Richard Kissi, Head of Finance and Industry Operations; Angela Osei-Badu, Member Relations and HR Manager; Ebenezer Yidana, Research Officer; Evelyn Asare, Corporate and External Affairs Officer; and Oscar Cyril K. Mingah, Operations Assistant Officer.

The COMAC team was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Riverson Oppong, supported by Mohammed Issah, Director for Policy and Regulations; Samuel Wristberg, Head of Policy and Research; Ms. Adjoa Baah Akuffo Esq., Head of Administration and Legal Advisor; Ms. Abena Ofosua Larbi, Senior Corporate Communications Officer; Mr. Courage Agblevor, Senior Compliance Officer; and Ms. Genny Dodoo, Executive Assistant.

The engagement provided a valuable platform for both organisations to share insights into their respective governance structures, operational priorities, and the evolving challenges within the downstream petroleum industry. Discussions were open, constructive, and solution-oriented, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening the sector.

Key areas of focus included compliance and enforcement standards, member subscription frameworks, pricing dynamics, and the broader commercial and regulatory environment shaping industry operations. Both parties pointed out the value of strengthening product quality assurance, protecting brand integrity, and promoting operational discipline as essential drivers of market confidence.

A central outcome of the engagement was the exploration of mechanisms to enhance industry coordination and accountability. In this regard, CBOD and COMAC discussed the potential establishment of a joint dispute resolution framework to address industry-related concerns more effectively, alongside strengthening credit and financial risk management systems to improve transparency and stability across the sector.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of structured collaboration between key industry bodies. CBOD emphasised that coordinated advocacy, strategic policy engagement, and unified industry action are critical to addressing systemic challenges and unlocking sustainable growth within Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.

While CBOD and COMAC operate within distinct mandates, both institutions recognise their shared responsibility for ensuring a well-regulated, efficient, and resilient petroleum sector that supports national development.

CBOD remains committed to deepening partnerships across the industry and looks forward to translating this engagement into concrete, results-driven outcomes that will strengthen market stability, enhance operational standards, and deliver long-term value to stakeholders.
