The Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), in collaboration with the Tema Command of the Ghana National Fire Service, has organized an emergency fire response training program for members of the chamber. Forty representatives from member company depots participated in the intensive training session. The purpose of the training program was to equip depot staff with the requisite skills to effectively respond to emergency fire outbreaks.
This initiative underscores CBOD’s commitment to prioritizing safety and security in downstream sector depots.
“The training strengthens fire safety protocols and equips depots for immediate response in case of emergencies,” CEO of CBOD, Dr. Patrick Kwaku Ofori said. “Focusing on the well-being of our depot staff is paramount. Therefore, organizing this emergency fire response training was both necessary and vital. We are committed to ongoing training initiatives to ensure the continued safety of our depots.” Emmanuel Kwabena Nketia, Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I of the Fire Service added that such training programmes are importance in ensuring a prompt response to fire outbreaks at depots.
“The Fire service is ready to partner CBOD in exploring the possibility of holding this training biannually,” Mr. Nketia said.
Charles Andrews Eshun, Station Officer II, Tema Regional Safety Department of the GNFS also acknowledged the critical nature of such training programmes, particularly for depots with a higher fire risk due to petroleum product storage. He commended CBOD for taking the initiative to organize this essential training, equipping depot staff with the necessary skills to respond effectively to emergency fire situations.
