CBOD CEO Speaks on Strengthening West Africa’s Petroleum Supply Chain at Argus Forum

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), Dr. Patrick K. Ofori, participated as a speaker at the Argus West Africa Oil Forum held in Accra on March 10, 2026, where he delivered a presentation on sustaining the region’s refined petroleum products supply chain.

In his presentation, Dr. Ofori highlighted the growing demand for petroleum products across West Africa, driven by population growth, urbanisation, and expanding industrial activity. He noted that, despite this increasing demand, the region continues to rely heavily on imports of refined petroleum products due to its limited domestic refining capacity.

He explained that this dependency exposes regional markets to global price volatility, foreign exchange pressures, and logistical constraints, all of which have direct implications for fuel pricing and supply reliability. He emphasised that ensuring a stable and resilient supply chain requires deliberate and coordinated efforts across the industry.

A key focus of his address was the importance of market transparency. Dr. Ofori underscored the need for timely and accurate data on production, supply flows, demand, stock levels, and pricing, noting that improved access to such information is essential for strengthening energy security and maintaining market stability across the region.

He further outlined a strategic pathway for enhancing the resilience of West Africa’s petroleum supply chain. This includes improving transparency, adopting more flexible and responsive pricing frameworks, investing in critical supply infrastructure, strengthening regional collaboration, and leveraging digital solutions to enhance data quality and operational efficiency.

The Argus West Africa Oil Forum brought together industry leaders, policymakers, traders, and analysts to discuss emerging trends and practical solutions aimed at ensuring a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable petroleum supply system across the region.

CBOD remains committed to contributing to thought leadership and policy dialogue that supports a stable, transparent, and forward-looking downstream petroleum sector in Ghana and across West Africa.
